Seriously...?

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 27, 2013, 3:04 AM
Oh good sweet merci- I just came across someone who does art on MS Paint. Now I'm not one to condone people for not having good software (hell, some people can make MS Paint stuff look GOOD), and I'm also not one to chastise someone's art style... But my God, this stuff looks REAL bad. Like, your usually MS Paint crap: Wobbly lines, awkward colour choices, no shading, disproportionate drawings, and the like.
I won't name who they are, I'm above that.

But goodness gracious, it's just too hard to stoma- Wait, what? ... Say that again? ... O-one more time?

... They have more than twice the watchers I do...

... I feel so inadequate right now...

  • Listening to: ZX/ZXA soundtracks
  • Reading: Clash of Kings
  • Watching: Fullmetal Alchemist/Evangelion movies
  • Playing: NOT FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING ;n;

It really isn't that big of a deal, there could be a hundred different reasons. XD maybe they're super nice. Maybe they're disabled or they're actually a little kid and people know them. Maybe they do watch-for-watch, where people will watch each other just for more watchers (say that five times fast.) I could be completely wrong, I dunno. XD

Don't worry about how many watchers or pageviews you have, cuz that's not what being an artist or writer is about. Don't compare yourself to others; whether they're better than you, or worse than you. Cuz you'll either get too big of an ego or get too discouraged. That's my problem, actually. So we're sorta in the same boat. XD

I've seen artists who are PHENOMINAL and they have been around dA for years; but they only have 1,000 page views. They only have 20 watchers. I'm dead serious. it blows my mind. I wish I could give them all of mine because they deserve it more XD so don't get discouraged. Take a break from dA if you think it'll help ^_^ that's what I try to do XD just focus on yourself; look at how much you've improved up until now and take joy in that. Cuz you can only get better >u<

I- I- I- ... Thank you ;A; *Hugs really tightly* Thank you for making me feel better ;u;
I've always had a problem with comparing myself to others. My family always does it with me and my sister, saying that she's always been more capable of doing things than I have and what not. And when it comes to drawing, people at my school will say that my art's nice but bring up another guy in my year who does even better stuff. I've always felt that I had to be better to feel happy with myself and make people like the things I do... But you're right, the only person I should compare myself to is myself. I know I've improved, but I have so much farther to go, and I'm willing to pursue my limits.

But I might take a short break from drawing, just to clear my head a bit. I dunno, I'll see what I can do to bring myself out of my (what seems to be) perpetual rut XD

Again, thank you so much... No amount of watchers can equal the love and warmth I get from friends like you ;u; :icongwompplz:

FFFFF-- omg I was nervous you wouldn't like what I said X'D;; I'm glad to hear this though ;u;

See, my problem is my family sort of built up my ego. I was an idiot for believing it, but the same with my art teachers and all of the positive reviews I got online, I let it all get the better of me. Then I came across people who are YEARS ahead of me artistically but are my age or even younger, and it was like a wake-up call; there's always going to be someone better. Can't be helped, you know? And then I was an even bigger idiot and nearly stopped drawing all-together because I thought I sucked so badly and was never gonna improve and was starting to lose interest. THANK GOD, I got back on track. I thank God everyday, like seriously, for where I am. It wouldn't be any fun if we were natural-born Picasso's, you know? XD Part of the fun is going "EWWWHGH I DREW THAT?" you know? >u<

ALSO, that's good! >u< Taking a break is necessary, even needed. an over-load can ruin EVERYTHING @_@;;

Blech. that sucks. :( But at least you have stuff that actually looks like it has effort put into it as opposed to some people's scribbles. :)

Thank you, but I guess in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter =\
